The company I’m currently working for as a consultant is MyC4.com, a startup company with a clear vision: To end poverty.

It’s the way they go about realizing that vision that I love. Through an online platform (that I designed the architecture for and helped build), people in the western world who have a bit of surplus money can “invest” directly in developing businesses in Africa by lending them money at around 10-20% interest on short-time loans and then re-invest or withdraw the money at any time. Most of the time, the company behind the site hopes, people will re-invest and thus create a cycle of positive reinforcement.

They are just beginning now, but 2.000+ beta users have already invested more than half a million Euros (that’s around USD 730,000) on the site and are recieving repayments on their loans.
